CBD's Effects on Acne

Many people are starting to recognize the fantastic therapeutic benefits of CBD. However, due to all the stigmatization circling the compound, many wonder if such products are actually safe for them. If you are one of those people, read on as this article touches on some of the most essential truths and myths regarding CBD usage.

How Does CBD Affect the Body?

The Effect Of CBD on Body

Before we get into the safety of CBD products, let's take a closer look at what the compound is and how it influences the body. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural compound found in hemp plants. Every mammal on this rock has a complex internal system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This extensive regulatory system controls virtually everything that keeps us operating.

The ECS regulates functions such as mood, appetite, and even pain. Our bodies naturally produce cannabinoids (neurotransmitters) in small amounts, and in turn, these neurotransmitters spur the receptors to maintain the various functions mentioned above. Now you might be asking yourself, “Where does CBD come into play exactly?” Well, CBD serves as an extra supply of cannabinoids to enhance the many functions of the ECS, therefore contributing to our good health.

CBD Is Not Addictive

Another question people ask is, “Is CBD Addictive?” This is a complicated question, and the answer ultimately depends on your situation and how you use the product.

Based on chemistry, the answer is a resounding no. Cannabidiol is not intoxicating in the same way substances like THC, cocaine, and alcohol can be. Furthermore, CBD does not produce any withdrawal symptoms upon discontinuance. However, people can get addicted to things that are not chemically addicting. Take exercise, for example, music, sex, and food are also great examples.

Those who rely on CBD daily to help alleviate symptoms of chronic pain and other conditions may find that their unpleasant discomforts return after a few missed doses. This is no different than a headache recurring once the effects of Advil wear off. That's why it is imperative to do your research, talk to your doctor, and find out the best way to take CBD for your particular circumstance.

Know What You Are Buying

If you’ve been buying CBD products without verifying the potency through their sellers, you may have been using a marginally effective formula that doesn't contain as much CBD as you imagined, or worse, as much as you’ve paid for. This is why we have CBD reviews. You should only buy CBD products from trustworthy, positively-reviewed retailers that test their products and are transparent about the potency.

Can You Overdose on CBD?

Can You Overdose On CBD

No! A 2017 study published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research proved that CBD is indeed as safe as you would hope. Overall, the most significant risk you'll likely run into if you consume too much CBD may be feeling very sluggish as the compound can have tranquilizing effects when taken in high doses.

However, there are some outliers. The journal, Case Reports in Ophthalmological Medicine, reported a CBD-linked fatality in 2019. According to the essay, a 56-year-old woman suffering from Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, a rare skin disease, had started using a CBD spray one week before being admitted to the hospital, where she later passed of septic shock.

However, the woman had a complex medical history, including hypertension and coronary artery disease, so linking her passing to the spray she used may not provide the full picture. The bottom line is that CBD is very far from deadly, but there can be exceptions. That's why consulting with your doctor is crucial before committing.

So, can I overdose on CBD? Considering no incidents have been reported on people dying from taking too much CBD oil (or whatever CBD delivery method you prefer), the answer is no. But it's important to keep in mind that not all CBD products are equal, and not all sellers are honest about what they put in their products.

If your product is compromised in any way, there is no telling whether it is safe. So, when shopping for reliable CBD products, look for organic products and positive reviews. Make sure the company you are purchasing from has taken the necessary precautions to get rid of toxic elements, additives, and has not used any harmful ingredients in their formula.
